Move over, you ‘hip and cool’ adults, there is just no use trying anymore. These child actors/characters have got their eyeglasses game completely down! From Harry Potter’s rounders to Margo Gru’s rectangle eyeglasses, some movie props become such a vital part of the whole character graph that we can barely recognize them without their iconic eyewear.
On Children’s Day 2021, we celebrate seven iconic children’s film characters that just wouldn’t be the same if they did not wear glasses.

Gabi from Vivo
The lively and quirky preteen, Gabi from the 2021 animated movie Vivo, is a 10-year-old girl with beautiful purple hair. Her character is portrayed as optimistic, curious, and keen to get to know the world. She also shows strength, creativity, and optimism in times of need.
Her funky clothes and love of music, coupled with her oversized blue rectangle eyeglasses, complete her personality and individual identity effortlessly!

Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter
When it comes to wizards and magic, what is the first image that pops into your mind? Harry Potter! Sure, magical alleyways and revolving staircases are iconic trademarks, but you shouldn’t forget that one constant accessory! From sleeping under the cupboard to conjuring Patronus, his one trusty companion was always by his side — no, not Ron! His iconic round glasses!
Daniel Radcliffe’s performance as Harry Potter inspired a whole new wave of style in pop culture. This led to a revamped appreciation for children’s glasses, especially the round-rimmed frame Harry sports in all the movies.

Olive in Little Miss Sunshine
Little Miss Sunshine gives us all the ingredients of a family; playfulness, peace, anger, love, stuffed into an old VW bus! The movie starts with a young girl- Olive, standing in front of a TV, and the reflection of the newly crowned Miss America on her oh-so-awwdorable kid’s eyeglasses! This PoV shot establishes the dream of the kid, straight through her eyes.
Throughout the movie, Olive works hard towards her goals while keeping it real, eyeglasses and all. This feel-good movie keeps you grounded and reminds you to dance like no one is watching!

Macauley Culkin as Thomas in My Girl
It takes me great restraint, watching My Girl and not burst into tears every single time! Such was the stellar performance of the child stars Macaulay Culkin and Anna Chlumsky. Macaulay Culkin was already a superstar with the young actor hot off the mega-hit Home Alone.
Another character that is important to this movie apart from those pesky bees is Culkin’s cute eyeglasses. Sporting eyeglasses were considered nerdy for most children both then and now, but when your favorite child star does it, everyone wants to flaunt these cute kids’ eyeglasses! The round glasses sported by Culkin in this 1991 movie are still iconic and trendy today.

Peter Billingsley as Ralphie Parker in A Christmas Story (1983)
There is no denying that A Christmas Story is a beautiful holiday movie that families watch every year. The film starred Peter Billingsley as Ralphie, a young boy who wants a BB Gun for Christmas. Between the captivating storytelling, quirky characters, and overall filming style, A Christmas Story has also stood out for the cute tortoiseshell round eyeglasses that Ralphie dons in the movie! A style that is uncommon among children, the tortoiseshell frame is for those kids who want eyeglasses just like their parents.
While Ralphie does break his glasses while playing with his BB Gun against the advice of his parents (thankfully the eyeglass protects his eyes from damage), what makes it iconic is that the broken glasses weren’t a prop, they were his real glasses that broke on set.

Jonathan Lipnicki as George in Stuart Little
Remember Jonathan Lipnicki? That loveable kid who stole our hearts as George Little, faithful and loving brother of Stuart Little (the movie with the same name) the mouse. Potentially the cutest child who has worn glasses ever, Jonathan knew how to rock the round frames. These round eyeglasses enhanced his chubby face and gave him a unique personality that we all adore.
I am sure you also remember Jonathan Lipnicki as Ray Boyd starring opposite Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire! And even in this movie, he sports his beloved look with the round eyeglasses!
